The Nines trailer, HD
The super-deluxe HD version of the trailer is now up at Apple. Me like.
It’s not showing up on AppleTV yet, for whatever reason. I don’t know what subset makes it through, but I presume it’s coming at some point.

Yeah.. trailers usually take some time to show up in Front Row too, but I’m sure it will appear sooner or later.
I spotted the trailer on Apple Trailers some hour ago via the RSS-feed. Looks great, can’t wait to see the movie!

Does it contain any spoilers/money shots?
I am sooo eager to see 9s – but don’t wanna watch a tell-all trailer….

@Ram: Obivously I don’t know the movie’s plot, but frankly, some parts of the trailer seem pretty spoiler-ish… :-/
Wouldn’t watch it if you wanted to see the movie with a fresh mind.

who is the band playing in the trailer around the 1:18 mark?

Drat this old equipment… have to try it later at home.
Say, John, I’m just curious: have you any idea if you’ll be opening in Canada any time soon? I’m quite excited about the movie, and was wondering if it will pop up in Vancouver at all.

Nick (#5):
All of the music in the trailer was composed for the trailer. I don’t know the name of the guy (it wasn’t Alex Wurman, who wrote the music for the movie), but he’s left a comment on one of the YouTube threads.

Congrats, John! Saw it last night, before I saw this posting, and I watched the first nine minutes at the website. Tres cool, I hope it kills. So the people with the colored diamonds over their head…they’re all in a video game? The Truman Show meets The Sims?!! ;-)

I noticed a piece of Sims art on the wall (in the dining room shot). Hm…

John-
I love your work and from the looks of it, you direct as wonderfully as you write. The trailer is interesting to a point. It ends up being too long, and whereas I first watch, I want to see the film, but by the end, I feel like I may have aleady seen it. Good luck, I hope it kills.

Hey John!
I love the trailer, and I’m looking forward to seeing The Nines when it comes out next Friday here in New York City. Even commented about it at my blog.
I love your site, and I actually have committed myself to checking out the archives since there’s such a wealth of info here. :)
But, enjoy your weekend!

I hate to be the voice of dissent here, but I was pretty baffled and dissappointed by that trailer (and poster), which don’t jibe at all with what I had thought the movie was about. I had been interested in the movie before I saw the trailer but the trailer really killed my interest.
–My impression beforehand: “A quirky indie dramady with Hope Davis that tells three separate but interrelated stories with the same actors about the interaction between fantasy and reality in the television business. Well reviewed at Sundance. I should go.” –My impression afterward: “Hollywood supernatural thriller with Ryan Reynolds. Avoid it like the plague.”
Part of the problem is Reynolds. I wasn’t off-put by his presence at all back when I thought it was a quirky indie movie, but now that it’s being sold as a slick thriller, he becomes a big liability. He’s made a LOT of really bad Hollywood movies and no good ones.
Another big problem is that the trailer is VERY reminiscent of the the trailer for “The Number 23″, which was a laughing stock in the press.
The poster is even more off-putting. It’s pretty baffling (and nothing in the trailer speaks to what’s going on in the poster), but it made me ultimately conclude: “this is a movie about a guy battling cancer,” because cancer is my only point of reference for colored wristbands.
Don’t be mad at me, I’m not a jerk, I promise. I just thought you should know that that’s the message these materials send out to me and possible others.

Hey everyone!
Hey John!
The trailer: I don’t think it’s long at all. I think it’s fine regardless, but I could see why folk would say the length is a little on the long side. Most trailers are what? 90 seconds at most?
But, I do think it might a little spolier-ish. I know that one of the original traliers for DESCENT (a powerful indie movie out starring Rosario Dawson), actually showed why the film is controversial..the trailer was shortened and changed and the one that’s probably up now is not as spolier-rific, so to speak. :)
But, I can’t wait…I might have to see this and see Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake on the same day. :)
Enjoy your weekend!

Hello John!
Thank you so much for writing and adding a small charater of the deaf into the big screen!! Hollywood is not ready for a leading charater of the deaf for years because of the avoidance of risk. Marlee Matlin, a deaf actress got an Oscar award for the best supporting actress in 1988.
I am looking forward to seeing a big screen with a deaf leading actor and your writing. Would you consider writing about what the world would be like or what happen to all lives when sound disappeared mysteriously?
Just let me know by email when you have comment for this question.

There’s no Deaf people in this movie, only a mute. Played by Elle Fanning.

John, just want to say thanks for casting Hope Davis in a sexy role! Us “thinking straight men with taste” (if you will) love her, and actresses like her rarely get the sexy roles. Hope Davis in “Mumford” is one of my big movie crushes. :-0
August 26th, 2007 at 5:37 am
I agree with Dan:
Casting Hope Davis is genius! She is so talented, and to have her in a sexy role is fantastic. I’m always happy to see her in a film, and to have her be cast as a character who is so full of sensuality and strength is great. I can’t wait to see this film…
Of course, casting Melissa McCarthy is also amazing too. She’s so underrated, and I’m glad she’s getting more work period. :)

I just happened to see the first nine minutes of the movie on iFilm, and if I wasn´t hooked before, I am now. A really great opening with a heavy indy touch, yet with a slightly weird atmosphere – damned, I really, really hope they´ll show the movie here in my country.
John –
will the score be available? I fell in love with the theme playing during the beginning credits…

Just saw you have 9 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and they’re rating The Nines 100% fresh. Congrats!

Man. I checked all the youtube videos with the nines trailer in it and it drove me nuts looking for the song. I’m done. It was great, but worth all that effort? Still waiting to see this movie. Looks to be one of the best of the year.
