Dude, I got a Grammy nomination
This morning I opened my email to find a note from my friend James LaRosa, congratulating me on my Grammy nomination. I had no idea what he was talking about.
But I went to the Grammy site, and lo and behold, there’s my name. Apparently the announcements were this morning in New York.
The nomination is for “Wonka’s Welcome Song,” the annoying (yet catchy) jingle that the puppets sing at the factory gates. I share lyric credit with Danny Elfman, who also sang it.
There’s other news on other fronts, but nothing trumps unexpected kudos, so I’ll save that for later.

Congrats! You’re on your way to potentially adding another hyphen to your title! ;-)

Cool and good luck – if any tune deserves one it’s that – hooked my kids that’s for sure!

Now that’s a way to start the day…”Bills…bills…hey, Grammy nomination…bills…”

If you win, do you get your own little statue, or do you and Danny Elfman have to share? Congrats!

Congratulations John.

How’s that for a “nomination I never thought I’d receive”?
December 8th, 2005 at 3:43 pm
Wow, congratulations! So, when does your album come out? ;)

John August sings the blues…I like it!
December 8th, 2005 at 5:25 pm
Congrats, John! I’ve listened to a couple of the other songs you’re nominated with, and I really don’t see how you can lose. Good luck, though!
December 8th, 2005 at 5:56 pm
Congratulations! I presume that came out of left field for you – did you even know that you might be considered for a nomination? Good luck!

All kudos to John for getting an unexpected nomination, but he’s up against Tom Petty! I think he needs the good luck.

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, haven’t posted a comment yet however. This definately required I do so. Congratulations, you deserve it!

Congratulations John.
To the inquiry about whether John will share his golden record player should he win–he will not. It’s one per recipient.
December 9th, 2005 at 3:38 pm
One per recipient is really cheap. So do they have some kind of an arbitration committee to decide who gets the award-object in cases like this? Or would John August and his co-creator be expected to sort it out themselves? Like by a backstage fistfight or – in a more genteel fashion – by entering into some sort of joint custody agreement?
Personally I think that if you get an award you should receive an award-object. Statue or something. Heavy enough to be used as a bookend.

Or as a weapon. That would end any debate over who takes it home.
