New photos up

Charlie RiverCourtesy FilmForce, there are new photos up for two projects. Click on each for a larger version.

The first is from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, showing most of the principal cast in the Chocolate Room.

From left to right, the characters in the photo are Charlie Bucket, Veruca Salt, Grampa Joe (Charlie’s grandfather), Mrs. Gloop, Mr. Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Ms. Beauregarde, Willy Wonka, Mr. Teavee and Mike Teavee. Not pictured is Augustus Gloop. Anyone who’s read the book can probably figure out why.

Charlie RiverThe second photo is from Corpse Bride, and shows Victor Van Dort practicing his wedding vows, while nervous bride-to-be Victoria looks on. The film is in production in London.

I’m curious to know what attracted you to this project, John? The original is such a classic, near flawless in every way to so many people, why remake it? Is there a new, different story to be told from the same source novel?

My best guess is Tim Burton. The thing that makes me curious about John and his writing is Big Fish. He mentioned that in 1998 he sat down with Daniel Wallace and talked about the book before he adapted it.

What makes me curious is did John write it and submit it or was he asked by a studio to write it. I remember reading here that Steven Spielberg was interested, meaning Tim Burton wasn’t originally behind it.

It isn’t a remake as far as I know. When I first heard about it I thought - how in the hell can someone faff with Gene Wilder?! but I did some nosing and found that the original film was a musical and this one isn’t… It’s an adaption of the original book with much more of the actual background behind Willy Wonka (Crazy guy!) and what happens with Charlie at the end.

Please though, correct me if I’m wrong :o. I’m equally intrigued by the project - also think someone is blinkin’ brave adapting a Roald Dahl book, thats one amazing children’s writer.

I did wonder why Tim Burton didn’t plump for the twits though, much more gruesome n’ gross - right up his dark little alley! Unless you’re writing that at the moment John? hehe

    Great site

Looks like the shooting of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is contributing to a dire shortage of little people actors in the U.K.:
