A very, very big fish

very big fishThis from Daniel Wallace, a photo of two guys who have apparently caught Edward from BIG FISH.

Like Mulder from X-Files, I Want to Believe, but in the age of Photoshop, pretty much anything can be faked. But I welcome your opinions. Maybe this really is the biggest catfish in the Ashton river.

    This might help you believe.

They say the picture is real. Also there are some other pictures at:

I think this is the subject of Open Water 2.

  2. Eric Nentrup says:

This is legit! The European Wels Catfish can grow to monstrous proportions. I remember reading about it as a teenager in Field & Stream, and thinking twice before dipping my foot into Indiana streams and ponds!

Here’s a link to other pics regarding the Wels.

And the NOODLING is legit to. My Great Grandpa would catch channel catfish as big as his leg on a regular basis this way. They actually LIVED off of these catches. My grandma talks about memories of being a little girl and they’d be driving along when “Paw” would just pull over near a bridge and say, “be right back.” He’d come back soaked to the armpits but with a catfish by the lip in each hand! Other blokes aren’t as lucky…they’ve lost fingers, and some folks have even been pulled under.

    Honest to God.

  3. Richard says:

Those links answered the question. The image did look real, when you examine the shadows and all. Just little stuff, but it is something you would expect to make the evening news.

  4. claude says:

Unless a fish that big used to be a kind-hearted old man, it’s just too scary to think about!

  5. John says:

So, based on the snopes stuff, it seems that the photo is real. But the guys in it might be French, which is yet another Big Fish allusion.

  6. Daniel Wallace says:

I thought those guys looked French. Especially the one with the big smile on his face. You have to be French to smile like that while holding a fish weighing close to 140 pounds.

You can find that kind of fish in rivers in Europe. Just make a search on Google image with the word “Silure” (name of this fish) and you will see many pictures of big silures.
