Praise Be New Holland

September 25, 2012 Frankenweenie

There are two Frankenweenie albums, both out today.

Danny Elfman’s original soundtrack is predictably terrific, incorporating some sly allusions (“Wait, is that..?”) and sweet gothic goodness. I particularly love the big crazy organ on Mad Monster Party. It’s one of the most frenzied sections of the movie, and Elfman’s score helps hold it together.

The second album, Frankenweenie Unleashed!, gathers together new tracks and covers by various artists. I feel old that I had to Google about half of the names.

I wrote lyrics for one song on Unleashed!, Praise Be New Holland, a paean to suburbia that Winona Ryder’s character sings just before the mayhem starts. As scripted, the song was sung in both English and terrible faux-Dutch, but only the English made the cut.
