on_the_nose

Dialogue that reveals the exact intention or emotional state of the character, without any subtext.

Example: “I resent you because you’re the kind of person I want to be, but can never become.”

On the nose dialogue is undesirable. It doesn’t sound natural, and it fails to involve the audience, because there’s no hidden meaning for the audience to figure out.
