This is a common set of contractual terms when a writer is hired, especially when a studio buys a pitch, or hires a writer to adapt an existing idea or property.

In a draft and set, the writer gets the draft to show the strength of their original idea or their take, and then they get the set to show how well they can take notes and be a team player. Writers are often replaced after the draft and set.
