The standard typewriter font in which all screenplays are written. Twelve-point is the proper size. You could use a different font, but you’d look like an amateur.
It’s important to note that the proper size of the font is 12-point/10-pitch, meaning 10 characters per inch. Unfortunately, “courier” is so popular that there are many versions on many different computers and some of them aren’t the right size.
In answer to this problem, Final Draft introduced Courier Final Draft which is arguably the most popular script typeface in Hollywood. Virtually every FD screenplay is typed and printed using this font, which is exactly 12 point/10 pitch, with a specially designed face to be very readable.
The font was given away freely for years, and any FD owner has a copy already.
The font was designed by Vintage Type Foundries, and they offer a selection of 12-point/10-pitch fonts that resemble old-time typewriter fonts.
