Terminator Forever

Kudos to the National Film Registry, who just added Terminator to the permanent collection at the Library of Congress. Years from now, when Skynet is defeated, humankind will be able to look to Cameron’s masterpiece and realize, shit, we shoulda known.

Other laudable additions include Deliverance and A Face In the Crowd. If you haven’t seen the latter, add it to your Netflix queue. Half the young actors I know idolize this movie, so if you can work it into a conversation, you’re halfway to casting your feature.

    LOL!

    Happy new year!

Skynet already hired McG to make a movie about itself. It’s beyond our control now.

“Come with me if you want to live” – best line in movie history. Closely followed by “Step away from her you bitch”.

!!! Yeah !!! I really miss Schwarzenegger on screen… let’s just hope he’ll do more of this ;) Although, I must admit, I didn’t quite like part 3. Therefore, the 4D ride rocks as much as part one ;)

“A Face in the Crowd” is such a smart, cynical and prescient movie. I first saw it when I was in college, back in 03 at the Telluride Film Festival, and Budd Schulberg was there to introduce it, a screenwriter getting the full-on auteur treatment, which was nice to see. It’s no wonder actors love the movie, because Andy Griffith’s character is the kind of part that’s very challenging and rewarding to play. He’s a phony, who has to be charming and engaging enough for the audience to believe that he would be such a success on TV, while at the same time conveying the darkness beneath his folksy, “aw shucks” exterior. I think one of the hardest things an actor can do is show the audience a part of his character’s personality that the character is actively trying to hide.

And if you want to see a great double feature, watch “A Face in the Crowd” along with Billy Wilder’s “Ace in the Hole.” Maybe even throw in “The Sweet Smell of Success” if you want to go for the blistering-media-critique-trifecta.

Terminator launched the seed of possibilities. A movie that influenced writers, directors and SFX designers…

Rushing to Uptown1 in Toronto, Canada to see Terminator II… What I remember — not the movie — but the anticipation of watching the work of a film director/screenwriter who was on top of the world. At that time I read every article/books on these visionary directors.

I’m sure his new movie — Avatar — will put him back on top of the world. The budget is $200.00 million!!!!

The story is hypnotic. Take a look…

Just yesterday, I was marveling at how The Terminator deftly ratches up the tension by increasing the jeopardy (“It absolutely will not stop, ever”) and raising the stakes (“I’m the mother of the future?”). And then, with that information in mind, the chase scene resumes!

I also got to wondering what if The Terminator had omitted the early clues that something science-fictiony was happening (the brief prologue, the naked materializations) such that the viewer could legitimately doubt Kyle Reese’s sanity. If so, that would have undercut the revelations mentioned above.
