Scene challenge ahead

[Scene Challenge]A heads-up that a new Scene Challenge will be coming early next week. In anticipation of Comic-Con, this one will be focused on superheroic action.

If you’re going to partake, you may want to read up a bit on action sequences and watch the scriptcast on scene description to get up to speed.

Yippe! I think I’ll participate in this one.

  2. Dorkman

Ooh. This one might be right up my alley.

Anyone have any all-time fave action sequences??

    Examples?

    Get um up!

(I still write action like I just got off the bus.) <— Maybe I’ll absorb something useful just before I get my ass handed to me by Dorkman. :P

If I may make a suggestion — How about you keep all entries in moderation until the contest is over this time? Just to make sure nobody’s at disadvantage for entering early?

My favorite action sequence is the foot chase in James Cameron’s Point Break script. It reads like a damn amusement park ride! And to John’s point, Kathryn Bigelow shot it perfectly, beat-for-beat as written.

As featured on IMDB’s hitlist: http://www.slate.com/id/2221388/ which featured a very interesting short film, C’était un rendez-vous (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3uT_dh2tB8&feature=fvst)

@ Jason — Right on. :) Reading now.

Oh My entry’s totally gonna be this guy called Devano Reeves… chasing this guy named Kody-Lee while wearing a Samuel Adams mask, and he breaks his elbow and shoots his pistol into the air and yells… DAMN YOU SALAZAAAAAAR!!! <— Huh? Huh? Good huh?

    Finally. Something I’m good at.

There is one superheroic action scene that is hard to forget & is written perfectly. The bus/highway scene in the book Hero by Perry Moore. Several characters, each with their own agenda, yet nothing feels rushed & is shockingly easy to follow what everyone is doing. I re-read that chapter immediately.

So what defines “early next week”?

  12. Film Fold

Can’t wait, I have missed the others, this sounds like fun.

I’m excited. Have I missed anything?

    When!!!

2 questions - is there a length limit (other than “reasonable”)? - can we establish with an EXT shot b4 the main scene or are we limited to a single slug?

    Lookin forward to it!
