Nothing like a little conviction to motivate ... This is the question I was secretly asking myself, but always afraid to give voice to ... primarily because I knew the answer.

Now giving voice to the question ... I am challenging myself to make sure I have a great answer each night.

Thanks for writing this post. As one of the generalists mentioned above in newspapers, I cannot emphasize how important it is to explore some additional disciplines to add to your primary skill set. I shoot so much video now that people forget I was only a writer at one time.

And yes, I was the guy who volunteered to help my film school friends on their shoots the most.

I recently made a career change from software development, to film. I'm starting my education for my new career (was admitted to a graduate program) on April. I'm scared, concerned. I've always loved storytelling. When I got laid off from my other career a few years back, I spent the next few years reading everything I could about film and screenwriting. Mostly, because writing helped me get through those rough years.

I used to write lots of stories when I was a kid, I used to record my stories on audio tapes (I'm in my mid thirties, and we didn't have easy access to affordable video cameras back then). If what you said in those words didn't inspire your audience, I can tell, you, it certainly inspired me.

So, thank you. :)

Wow. If that didn’t inspire them nothing will. I may have to print that out and paste it to my bedroom ceiling. I’m sure the wife won’t mind me blocking the mirrors, the shame…
