Kindle for iPhone

Long rumored, and now here. It’s free, and pretty darn good.

The Whispersync feature suddenly makes a lot more sense. If you’re reading a book on your “real” Kindle at home, but find yourself with ten minutes to kill at the car wash, you can open the book to the exact same place on your iPhone.

    “Not yet available at the Canadian store.” Oh, well. I was looking forward to checking it out.

    @Tim W:

    Yes, Kindle and iPhone are both pretty U.S.-centric. For Amazon, I’m sure part of the issue is that they only have publishing rights for certain countries.

    I still don’t get it.

    I read books, and my bookmarks keep me in the same place when I’m at the car wash.

    Why am I so resistant to the Kindle? I’m usually a tech whore.

    I’ve been reading scripts (typically in PDF format) on my iPhone a lot recently and it works great. It’s easier then holding a script in bed and a lot easier on the go, too.

    I’m kind of like JM above, though, typically I love technology but I don’t see a real use for the Kindle for myself.

    App worked great for me the first time – perfectly synced up to the exact page of Mystic River I left off on on the Kindle last night.

    Still, it’s no comparison to reading on the Amazon device – I’ve been using Stanza for awhile, but the Kindle really makes reading a joy. But like you say, I can see this filling the gap when the Kindle isn’t at hand.

    I tried to use it today and found that the magazines and newspapers don’t work on it. After a nice conversation with the folks at Amazon support they say they don’t know if/when they will be able to have mags/newspapers on the iPhone and they blame Apple for it. Just a heads up for those looking to try this app -Joe

    I tried it on my iPod touch last night– read a freebie excerpt of the new King book and it worked great. Not sure why I’d need a Kindle if it works on this! (?)

    This is cool. Couldn’t bother getting a whole separate device in the kindle, but its great to have it on my itouch. I like having physical stuff most of the time (I buy CD’s and books over the digital only most of the time) but its great to be able to grab some cheap books to carry around, and if I can get any textbooks on here at some point for cheap I’ll be set. And I can catch up on some series involving talking rodents that I haven’t read in years and there are books I never got from. cough
