And quit apologizing for Full Throttle. As a full-time musician, I spend most of my time playing things I'd rather not play:

-weddings ("I'd like this really special song, do you know it? Pachelbel's Canon?") -church services (I'm pretty much a heathen) -Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (AAARGHH!!) -terrible arrangments of good songs ("Fascinatin' Rhythm," stripped of its fascinatin' rhythm)

You're a working artist. Most of the time you have to go with what others want, and sometimes you get to do what you want. Which is much more than most people get from their (paying) work.

Besides, obviously some people liked Full Throttle. That counts for something!

Congratulations. Coincidentally, Brent White, a great pro and a friend, was also invited. On another note, Lorenzo Semple- an otherwise engaging guy, whose fantastic wit is now on full cyberspace display -got to run the Academy when he had brought the sixties Batman and the King Kong remake upon the world. In other words, I wouldn’t fret too much about Full Throttle.

Congratulations John! Really well deserved. As others have said above, this blog alone warrants admission!

Aside from the obvious (Academy voting), can you elaborate a little on the duties of an academy member? How do you think it will change your life, professionally speaking? What new benefits come along with it?

Also, I'm sure a lot of people on here would be curious as to how it all unfolded. Did you answer the door to find a hired goon nursing a golden scroll or did you just read it in the trades with everyone else?
