I'm a right bastard to my characters at the best of times, and have said many times that if they were to animate suddenly, the first thing they'd all do is line up at my door to punch me in the mouth.</p> <p>A good "fire" is certainly necessary to keep things moving, to give the reader or audience some tension, and to build sympathy with the characters.
