The Nines, Unboxed

I’ve never tried Amazon’s Unbox service, which works with PCs and TiVos. But as I was checking the stats this morning, I noticed a few readers had clicked through and purchased the Unbox version of The Nines.

I’m assuming the $14.99 gets you just the movie, without any of the special features or alternate languages/subtitles. But I’m frequently wrong. If any readers have experience with Unbox, by all means elucidate.

    Hi John,

I’ve used unbox to rent movies and purchase tv episodes, and there aren’t any special features included with them.

I want to hear more about the boxed version ;)

    Hey John,

I’m an aspiring screenwriter and a big fan of the blog. I’m starting to pitch different shows; reality, scripted, etc. and was hoping you could give me some insight on the best way to go about it?

I’ve been putting together presentations: a written summary of my show idea with mood images. And for scripted shows, I plan on bringing a completed pilot script. Should I bring along anything else? Should I go into possible marketing tie ins, etc.? Want to gain as much confidence in myself and my ideas as possible.

Overall, what do production executives like to hear?

Me too. I was actually looking into purchasing The Nines unboxed.

AmazonUnbox is just the movie itself, and it is downloaded and played through a special program you must also download. This program keeps track of the file so that it is only on 2 computers/DVRplayers and 2 portable devices (windows media compatible only).

My question concerns the WGA and royalties. How much does renting the unbox version pay you John? as a writer? as a director? as the chief financier? :/ Or does it pay nothing at all in royalties?

Personally, I plan on buying the dvd itself, since $15 for a limited usage download seems a bit silly.

What about iTunes? Are there plans to have it available through their new rental service?
