The Nines, U.K.

I spent the morning doing phone interviews for The Nines, which gets its theatrical release in the U.K. this Friday. We’re playing at three locations in London…

…plus other screens throughout the country. It’s a bit frustrating that in this age of Google, it’s so difficult to come up with a master list. (Part of this is my difficulty with U.K. postcodes, which are more specific than their U.S. equivalents.) So far, I’ve been able to find listings (but not showtimes) for Glasgow and Edinburgh, but if readers discover other locations, by all means share.

The British site for the movie, lookforthenines.co.uk, is better than the American one. We’ll be re-doing ours in the next few weeks in anticipation of the DVD release (January 29th).

West India Quay! I go there all the time - nice cinema with a great view over Docklands from the bar.

  2. Tom says:

Don’t worry - I can’t find out what film is showing where either and I live here. I’ve managed to miss Day Watch and Blade Runner: Final Cut because they’re shown in London for about a week and that’s it. I hope to [insert deity of choice here] that The Nines gets more than a limited release here.

  3. Scott from Australia says:

Any chance of a theatrical release in Australia? Or will it be straight to DVD?

  4. Kati says:

The Trocadero’s nice, though I once took my nice Conservative Republican grandparents to a Sunday matinee of “Monster” there. It sounds funny only because you’re not the moron who thought that was a good idea.

Are you not coming over yourself to promote the film Jon?

  8. tuberider says:

    Hello Mr. August,

I live down the road from West India Quay and will definitely go watch your movie, firstly because I really enjoy reading your blog though I’m sure it will be a fantastic film.

I hope everything works out for you guys re the strike & hope you can get back to work soon.

  9. Shell says:

None of those are near me, damn! Thats good at the dvd isn’t too far away! Although i haven’t seen the film yet i’ve been so engrossed in the competitions, puzzles, clips, scripts that i feel like i have, so to see the film will be the icing on the cake.

  10. John August says:

    Scott from Australia (#3):

There is supposed to be a theatrical release in Australia, but I haven’t heard any details.

    Dan (#7):

I won’t be coming over, alas. A lot of the press Ryan and I would have done was actually handled months ago at the Venice Film Festival.

  11. Parry says:

Woo Hoo didsbury isn’t that far away from me…
and really near my GF’s so will be dragging her to that one…

  12. Mark says:

    Hi John,

Looking forward to seeing the Nines on DVD. Will you be selling the DVD through your blog?

    thanks

    Mark

  13. Neil says:

I cant wait to download this movie !

  14. Hugh Macdonald says:

Excellent! Just down the road…… I’ve been looking forward to this one for far too long.

    Some good (if short) reviews:

Peter Bradshaw at The Guardian (3 stars)

James Christopher at The Times (4 stars)

Anthony Quinn at The Independent (3 stars)

On a completely different subject… are you doing funky things with CSS?

If I have a line of text.
Followed by another, with only one new line, the first one (above) goes big and bold…. At least it does in the live preview below this input box. If it doesn’t in the actual post itself, I’m going to feel a little silly.

  15. Hugh Macdonald says:

Okay. So I feel a little silly about now.

It does do strange things in the live preview! I promise!

  16. John August says:

The comments system is still a work in progress, alas.

  17. Jennifer Comfort says:

I am very excited about the Nines coming to DVD. At the request of my SIL Elizabeth, Ben and I bought 4 tickets to the opening in NY. However, we live in Florida and did not get to see it, and I am highly anticipating it.
Good luck and Good work with the strike. As a former film student, I highly support the strike. As an avid Tivo TV watcher, I am praying for a swift end.

  18. Shell says:

Grr I had arranged to go and see the film in Birmingham on Friday but according to the website it won’t be showing there anymore by then. I might be able to see it tomorrow but i don’t know, sigh i really wanted to see it on the big screen.

  19. Itsjustanalias says:

The Nines is on for a week’s run at the National Media Museum this week. It’s in the excellent, but tiny, Cubby Broccoli screen. I went on Friday and there was a good crowd.

    Excellent stuff Mr A.
