T-Minus one day

The trailer competition is nearing its end, and entries are starting to stream in. Some are quite good.

If I have one general observation, it’s that many of the trailers are trying to be respectful to the (supposed) tone of the movie. That’s fine, but it’s hard to distinguish yourself when aiming for the same it’s-a-thriller-but-not mood. I keep waiting for the grindhouse version, or the wacky comedy. Granted, I didn’t include a lot of punchline jokes in the footage bin, but many of the best fake trailers are comedies made from dramas.

Also, we’re highly lacking in the mash-up category, as many competitors have focused on making “pure” trailers using only the original footage.

The official deadline is tomorrow at 6 a.m. PDT. I won’t ding anybody who’s a few minutes late, but I’ll need to start judging ASAP.

I tried to make him seem like a person losing his mind. Let’s see if it worked.

I’m running into a bit of trouble with YouTube’s 100 MB limit on one of my entries. Does anyone know of an alternate upload location that allows bigger files? It’s a shame that the world’s not going to see my first masterpiece… :)

    Found it @ dailymotion.com!

Don’t judge yet! I’ve been working on it night and day, but my computer is a dinosaur for video.

It’s done, by the way, Vegas just keeps not responding. Lovely.

    Uploading on YouTube… 27%.

Better late than never I suppose. I only had time to upload a low res version, but I will also upload the high res later just for the hell of it. Even if it isn’t eligible, I still had fun. Plus, it was good motivation to do another trailer. Hope you like.

Nice, the low res has a couple of glitches that the high res doesn’t!! Oh well.

    Five posts. Woohoo!

    Hi there.

I uploaded my entry 7 hours ago and posted the link at the nines forum, but I thought I repost here:

    This was a fun competition!

I also posted on the nines forum. But, I am reposting here, just in case.

Great competition – hard to know what to make of the film based on the vague descriptions I’ve read. I’ll be there opening day in San Francisco.

Once again John I’d like to thank you for the opportunity to work with actual footage. It was a lot of fun and a learning experience. Fortunately I didn’t need to use SMPTE for it. That saved some time. I used some royalty free loops and sound fx which saved more time.

I can say that though I didn’t believe I cold get more excited, I guess I was wrong. I have the dumbest smile on my face right now. Maybe some day you can do the same to my footage.

    oh and to all

Keep writing as writing is the revealing of the soul. (You can actually insert “editing” for “writing” in this case – well, maybe not)

Here’s the high res version, glitch-free, if it matters…
