Screenbloggers, live

I’ve enjoyed meeting and picketing with my readership, but it got me wondering: What would happen if a major portion of the screenblogosphere all got together in one place? Let’s find out.

This Wednesday, Craig Mazin, Jane Espenson, Josh Friedman and I will all be picketing the 8-11 a.m. shift at Warner Bros., gate 2/3.

It’s your perfect opportunity to ask Josh about his dead bees, Craig about crazy rumors, and Jane about lunch.

I live in London on state assistance, so to say I won’t be able to join you would be something of an understatement.

But I have, in just the last ten days or so, discovered your blog and those of the other estimable people mentioned in your post and I’m now a subscriber to them all.

So if I could have been there to bring you all a cup of hot coffee during your shift, I would have been honoured.

I’ve been wishing I lived nearby so that I could strike with y’all, but this is just too much! I would love to be there! Have fun, anyone who goes.

So I read this latest entry…

First I made noises that were, frankly, not appropriate for public. And now I’m writing this with my head all exploded.

The scene you describe is my ultimate fantasy (better than the one with Salma Hayek and Uma Thurman in it). Although only recently, in the last 29 days or so, has my fantasy included picket signs.

And here I sit in Salem, Oregon while my ultimate fantasy is really… actually… happening.

Ahhhhhhh! (inappropriate noises and sound of head exploding).

I’ll try to make the end of that shift to meet you guys. Usually I do about 11 to 2pm in the Valley because I still have a job at least until they run out of episodes to post… I’m working in post production as my day job right now… but the shift is from 3:45 pm to 12:15 pm, so hence I don’t get to bed until 3-4 am. Please don’t say just stay up and make the early hours… I’m running on empty as it is doing double/triple duty in my life.

Burbank? I can’t do Burbank. It’s too wild there for me. And besides, I’m on house arrest and only can go as far as CBS Colfax. Which, I’m here to tell you is plenty wild enough at 6am.

You should take your act on the road (and heck, maybe lead each strike group in a protest song sing-along) and hit every strike location and bring a little joy to their lives.

  6. KLM says:

I wish I lived closer so I could go.

  7. Tim W. says:

I don’t know if someone who has five posts in the last year really qualifies as a blogger, but the entertainment value of Josh’s posts certainly make up for his inconsistency.

I’m also surprised that Craig is letting people know when and where he’s going to be picketing. Even a glimpse over at his site would make you not blame him for wanting to keep that information secret. Is he going to have a bodyguard in case `he who shall not be named’ and his crew come by?

Let me know when you guys will be picketing in Vancouver, and I’ll be there in a flash.

  8. aquafox says:

If it didn’t involve a 16-hour flight I’d be there! You guys rock…

  9. Craig Mazin says:

Well, I wasn’t going to specifically talk about it…

    Great.

Now I have to wear Kevlar.

  10. Lauretta says:

Sounds great, John, I’ll be there! I missed you at Paramount today b/c 5:30 a.m. is w-a-ay too early for me. However, I did make it out to the picket line at NBC Studios in Burbank with some edible treats and shouts (actually eardrum piercing screams)of support at 2pm. I could only stay an 1 and 1/2 hours but I really had a great time and I met some great people. Due to the strike-song chanting, car horn-honking, picket sign-waving and strike- support shouting, I didn’t get everyone’s name but I just want to say to Nina, Tomas Romero, Wan/Juan(inside joke) and all the other guys-”Keep the Faith!”

  11. annabel says:

I wish I could be there, but I am on the east coast. Please let us know how it goes.

  12. Sean William Menzies says:

John! Great idea! But I work at the Mouse and will be slaving away there during your siege of Warners. Will you ever make it further down Riverside Drive to us??

I wish everyone, from Salem to London, could be there!

  13. Nate says:

Something tells me this will end in a group hug or a group throwdown.

  14. ScribeLA says:

See you guys out there tomorrow!

  15. Irene says:

    Paramount will miss you, J.A.

    Not me, naturally.

    But everybody else, sure.

(okay, me a little. but just barely.)

  16. suzbays says:

Ooh, if I can make it back from Huntington Beach in time, I’ll go to Warners…except there’s the Diversity picket thingy at Paramount. Hmm, what to do.

BTW, the Van Ness gate is dull, dull, dull without you. I went on Monday to see if you were there. Yeah, so I got there closer to 9:30 and you were long gone, but still. At least it wasn’t as blah as the Raleigh gate. Bronson gate is winning the sweepstakes for fun (saw Patric Verrone dance) and yummy cookies (from Grub) b/c that’s what really matters. ;-)
