Ben, the DVD residual rate for writers is 1/3 of a cent for every dollar the studios make, so 4 cents for every $19.99 DVD sold. The WGA is currently fighting for 8 cents per DVD. If the studios have offered the DVD rate for paid downloads, it is at the old rate, and there is still no residuals offered for free streaming content.

Great video. A few questions, though. Didn't the studios offer 1.2% of advertising revenue for free content? And didn't they offer the DVD rate for paid downloads? And aren't they currently paying the DVD rate for online downloads?

Don't get be wrong. I think that it's worth fighting for better rates. I just think it's counterproductive to make stuff up if the reports I read in Variety about the studios' last offer was true.

I'm completely in support of the WGA/writers and I want to see a fair deal inked as soon as anyone else does but I have to say, I'm really enjoying all the golden writing that is coming out of this ever prolonging strike. Witty slogans, catchy picket line chants, videos like this one... writers being more in the public eye is something I'm enjoying very much. I feel wrong for enjoying any part of the strike, but am I alone in this?

Hopefully one more thing that comes from this strike is that writers will be appreciated all the more by everyone - especially those who write their cheques... or who don't, apparently.

As an online content creator and somewhat successful YouTuber (Wicked Awesome Films is the #20 Comedian account all time thank you) we definitely support the Writers strike - because we want to do that for a living. We at WAF also support this HILARIOUS video from the Daily Show writers, who are for my money (or lack thereof despite nearly 9 million views on our original material this year) they are the best & brightest in their field.

Keep at it John. I've been reading every day.

Haha, well done! These kind of viral videos could really help make people aware of the reasons behind the strike and in turn get the popular opinion on the WGA’s side.
