Update on the promiscuous player problem

My plea for a DVD player with loose morals and low standards was answered by many thoughtful readers. I ended up picking the Philips DVP-642 ($49 at Amazon), which not only zips through questionably-recorded dailies, but even Peixe Grande e Suas Histórias Maravilhosas, the Portuguese version of Big Fish.

Thanks again.

Now if you want heavy hard drive space, and something more perm, I’d suggest getting a modded Xbox 1, and using the open-sourced Xbox Media Player. http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/. Wee bit more expensive than just a simple DVD player, but also tons more functional, doing all the DIVX, XVIDy and other odd codec’ed formats. Check Craigslist for some deals. Or you could just S-VIDEO from computer into your system…

Correction: that’s Portuguese, alright, but that’s the Brazilian title and it translates to “Big Fish And His Amazing Stories”. In Portugal, the film was named just “O Grande Peixe” (Big= Grande, Fish= Peixe). Enjoy the new player and good luck with your film.
