That's really really cool. I live south of Nashville, and I really like the idea that someone from around here is out there making it.

I think posts like these are just as important as the ones on getting an agent or writing in format.

Hi John and all,

I did want to clarify, that yes I wrote a spec and that spec sold. But to be honest, and realistic, I wrote one spec that sold while I wrote five others that I would probably never show the light of day.

This industry is fickle, as you may have heard once or twice, so being aware of that incredible variable, I wanted to do everything I could on my end to ensure any lack of longevity in my career would be because of that variable, not because I didn't try hard enough, or push enough, or venture to learn how to be better.

Essentially, I wrote a lot of crap which taught me how to write less crap. So write crap, it'll make you better.

Wrote one spec, and all this stemmed for that? Never, ever listen to your self-doubt again Carey. Jeez, I want your problems.

This is a nice post. I'm deep in the trenches of self-doubt now, and that line about fighting with yourself is very true, and I needed to be reminded of that. Thanks!

Okay, I'm being a complete and total idealist here - but most times, for me, and seemingly for you, too, John, it seems so much more personally satisfying to help folks out while not being paid for offering up the advice/service. Why is that?

I may need to change that line of thinking so I can pay my Amex bill this month...

Thanks for posting that follow up!

I live in Nashville right now and I can assure you that my inner critic is RAGING against my writing machine. ;)

I was just thinking this week that I've got a few abandoned children that need to be properly groomed...
