More Charlie goodness

wonka smallA sharp-eyed reader wrote in to point out that the flash site for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is now open for business. You can find a lot more downloads, but still no “Cast and Crew” section yet. Ahem.

Also, the full trailer is now up at Apple, without any of that AOL baggage that the AICN folks complain about.

That looks cool. I can’t wait to see that movie, none of your previous scripts have let me down, so I can’t see why this one will. I love the almost psychedelic theme to the whole movie, the cinematography, the script and the acting, everything such seems so far out, that even a 19 year old like me think is fantastic.

I have a feeling this will have a broad appeal. Kids will love it, older kids will love it, young adults like me will love it and so will the older generations.

Good work Mr. August, really good work.

Thanks for the update…I tried the whole MovieFone Hi-Res thing and it proceeded to A) Not work and B) Bogart all my bandwidth while it was doing said nothing.

Really looking forward to this one, too. After seeing this newest trailer, I have to ask you, John — has there been any mention of doing Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator afterwards? Have you read the book and asked yourself, “Let’s see, how would I tackle this one?” I don’t think Glass Elevator is as well-structured as Wonka (and it doesn’t have as clear of a theme), but I do think that with some extra work, it could be molded into shape. I’m curious to hear your thoughts, if you have any at this point.

I just have one question at this point. Just how scary are the umpa-lumpas?

    Don’t touch that squirrels nuts!

    Why am I so amused?

John how did a PG movie slide that one past the MPAA?

Really looking forward to seeing this. It was a childhood favorite and holds a special place for me. Gene Wilder was brilliant and from what I can Johnny Depp looks solid too.

Looks like the magic didn’t get lost….

I was VERY much looking forward to seeing ‘Charlie’ opening night at IMAX ( I was even going to drive 2 hrs away to the nearest IMAX theater ), but lo and behold, I had forgotten that Harry Potter book 6 is being realized that same night. And I have to work until 2 am for the hordes of HP fans that will deluge my store.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but do you think the release of HP will affect box office weekend? At least for Friday night? Because so many people will be in bookstores for the release?

If anyone’s interested, check out the Charlie figures coming out.

I think getting figures of the characters you create (or at least bring new life to) would just be so cool.
