I got so excited about the movie just now that I forgot why you would post this.

Q: Do you ever get excited about seeing your own movies?

  2. Doug

    Very nice, John. ;)

What is up with Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Willy Wonka? Or is that yours, or Roald Dahl’s? He doesn’t appear to be scary or clever… Possibly a little high.

  4. Joy

Wow. I didn’t think I could get any more excited about this film than I already was, but this trailer proved me wrong. That was brilliant!

Johnny Depp as Wonka is a dream come true, and it looks like you really did honor the book and its true spirit. I’m so happy about all this, I could dance a jig! hehehe

Seriously, though, the movie looks amazing, and I can’t wait to see the full product!

Congrats, Mr. August, on a movie (or at least the trailer) well-done! (oh, and I loved Big Fish, by the way; never read the book, but loved the movie!)

“Candy doesn’t have to have a point. That’s why it’s candy.”

John, some of the lines in that trailer gave me chills.

And if Mr. Salt is referring to an Oompa-Loompa musical number when he says “that all seemed rather rehearsed”, it is as brilliant as it is bold.

Know what I remember most from reading the book as a child? The chocolate palace that melted. I had to back the trailer up to be sure — it flashed by so fast — but I must thank you for not overlooking that.

    Thanks, David.

Yup, Mr. Salt is referring to the elaborately choreographed Oompa Loompa numbers, which Wonka insists are improvised.

Prince Pondicherry’s melting palace is a great moment in the book. I’m happy we were able to get it in.

Hmmm… Sometimes I think I prefer not to see final trailers…. the early quick cut trailer with the catchy tune really hooked me… the new trailer is so much slower that it feels a let down.

Johnny Depp as Wonka now seems a bit odd and one or two of the cuts don’t feel right.

I guess now I’ll have to wait for the film with trepidation rather than excitement.

This movie looks SOOOOOOOOO cool. You see all the children get eliminated except for Violet. Why don’t you show her turning into a blueberry. I think it would’ve been a GREAT thing to put in a trailer.

  9. Ethan

Hey john, the official site has now got a flash section full of some cool downloads

  10. Mats

    Thanks John!

I have a feeling they will have to bury me with this movie.

  11. Mats

I mean in a good way, a very good way!

    sorry

John, you are a screenplay literary genius.

I’ve always wanted to see the melting palace [I even wrote a couple scripts for that scene myself, one where the Prince wakes up in the chocolate lake that was the palace, and the last thing to fall over is a huge half-melted chocolate tower that sends a tidal wave crashing over Pondicherry and Grandpa Joe coming over saying "And nobody ever saw him again"]. If I am allowed one question…I know that, at the end of the trailer, there is the flashback from somewhere in the beginning half of the movie where Grandpa Joe talks about working in Wonka’s factory, mostly because you can see Joe standing there, and a younger Wonka standing behind what looks like a giant, solidified sheet of a Lava Lamp. What on earth is that?

The trailer is wonderful! I’m looking forward to seeing the movie – hopefully on IMAX. A truckload of books for the movie arrived in my store shipment this week, but I’ve resisted the urge to look at any of them ( they’re full of pictures and those can be spoilers )

Freddie and Annasophia Robb are going to be excellent in this film, I can tell. Robb was so charming in ‘Because of Winn Dixie’

  14. Alex

Why are you keeping how Violet looks when she turns into a blueberry such a secret! I really, really, really love Violet and I NEED to know what she looks like as a blueberry! Please, will you post a picture of it or something?

  15. Menno

What a disappointment…I expected something fresh, especially from a creative genious like Time Burton. I was really looking forward to seeing his vision of this great story. Instead I just can’t believe how the orginal production design is copied. And what’s the deal with Depp? He’s not Wonka, he’s Peewee on bad acid!

  16. Alex

In the second TV Spot, you see the Oompa-Loompas bouncing on Violet’s stomach but you dont really see her. I want (and maybe even need) to see Violet’s full body as a blueberry! Please Mr. August, I really need to see her!

  17. Alex

P.S. STOP IGNORING MY COMMENTS ON VIOLET! (please)

When do they show Prince Pondicherry’s castle being melted?
