So if gay marriage was made legal today you wouldnt say a thing against it? Let me guess 70% of Americans agree with you and the other 30% are gays?

The dictionary describes a bigot as "One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ".

No one is saying that discrimination against gays is anywhere near the same magnitude of slavery or the holocaust but they stem from the same beliefs. That all people on this earth are not equal.

Wow, with rehtoric like that you should be in politics. It's very easy to make statements, and then turn around and say, "I could be wrong." "The world is flat, but I could be wrong." "Murder is a good thing, but I could be wrong." But I guess only "most" of your statements are like that.

Why bother answering points from a person who flip flops like that. And you should sign your real name Mr. Kerry.

Writergurl, I haven't anywhere argued against gay marriage. I said I didn't support it. I pointed out that some of the claims of discrimination that Mr. August made were false.

70% of Americans agree with me. Maybe we are wrong. But I'm not a bigot. If you think that the discrimination that gays suffer is in any way comparable to the Jim Crow era for blacks (or like Derek, the holocaust for Jews), I'd recopmmend you do a little basic research.

Dennis, You know, your argument would be less bigoted if you also endorsed tell straight couple that THEY can't get married unless they are already preganant. THAT way, you would have verifiable proof that marraige is solely for the creation of children, however shallow the gene pool might be.

Also, married people in ALL states get benefits such as citizenship rights for their spouses, survivor benfits for Social Security, Military Retiree benefits, transfer of copyright and patent protections (not as important to a screenwriter perhaps, but important to everyone else holding a copyright to anything. Rights to care for and make medical decisons for your "spouse". (Yes, I know CA DP benefits do include that but this site is not limited to being read solely by Californians.)

So, tell me again, why is it OK for straight couples who never have children to enjoy these benefits and gay couples, who may want to have children (lots of lesbians are doing it) or even adopt children (especially those born with things like AIDS, and fetal alcohol syndrome) to be unilaterally denied the ABILITY to marry?

I'll wait for ONE, just ONE reason why that's ok. Frankly, I don't think you can provide it.

Derek, your argument isn't improved by pretending I said "all people get married to raise a family." Scroll back. That's not what I said. In fact I do think most, not all, people marry to raise a family. Mr. August thinks most people get married so that society and the government will view them as a unit. I could be wrong and so could he.

I'm not social security age. See, by making that statement, I'm not admitting that a point you raised was valid. I'm not sure how my age would have a bearing on the subject. Perhaps you could expand. By the way, you didn't answer any of my points, so it seems you admit my points ARE valid.

It's beneath contempt for you to imply that I am a Nazi. Although Mr. August and I may disagree on this issue, I doubt that he thinks I'm a Nazi. I could be wrong.
