I would like to know what is the basic option agreement.

I have a writer who want me to option his script for 5% of the budget and 5% points, I think both number are hogh. Should I just give them a flat rate.

How realistic is it for a writer w/ a good TV track record to ask from a startup company upwards of $25,000 for a 3-6 month option on a screenplay that was originally optioned 15 years ago by a studio and has now been re-vamped?

Reading the dictionary’s thesis on what an 'Option' is, has helped me widen my thoughts on what it is.

Option The exclusive right, usually obtained for a fee, to buy or sell something within a specified time at a set price.

My mother is a bank manager. So it stuck me straight away and I can see what the meaning of it is when it comes to screenplays and optioning the rights to them, just as you would do a share.
