Freddie Highmore cast as titular Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
I’m always reluctant to talk much about CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, because I never know what’s been approved by the studio for public release, and what’s supposed to be kept secret. But since this item showed up in Variety this week, I’m probably in clear mentioning that Freddie Highmore has been cast as Charlie.
Who the hell is Freddie Highmore? Never met him. I saw his screen test, and he was great. Tim likes him; Johnny Depp is already in a movie with him (J.M. Barrie’s Neverland); the kid looks properly hungry and Dickensian. So cheers all around.
The movie starts shooting this summer at Pinewood Studios outside London.
[Random side note: Fans of The Office will recall that the show is set in Slough, which I always assumed was made-up -- it sounds too gratingly pedestrian to be a real city. But it is real. You pass through it on the way to Pinewood.]

Well, i don’t know where to start. I’m sure Freddie can’t imagine what he means to me. No one can. He’s gonna become the best actor ever, or in fact he already is the best actor ever! Of course he’s gonna be bigger than Johnny Depp and Haley Joel Osment. Freddie you say Johnny Depp’s the king, don’t you know, you’re the king! Well, u have 2 b indulgent towards my bad english…I’m from Sweden… So…Freddie Highmore…I ADORE him! Well, have u guys met him yet? He’s pretty impressive (Johnny Depp’s quotation)…the kind of kid who could ask 4 a glass of water and break ur heart…that’s Freddie! The first time I saw him was actually in a magazine…my first thought was “Wow, he looks kinda cute!” But then I saw one of his movies, and I realized that Freddie is so much more than cute…lol…I mean, look at him! Young, talented, and as Ginny says, he does the best preformance in all of his movies. He’s just an amzing kid! Do u think u could win over ten awards before u have turned 13? Do u think u could do the best performance in a movie only 8 years old? Do u think u could smash up a playhouse three times still beeing serious and cry more realistic than Nicole Kidman? And do u think u could make all that seem so f*cking easy? Could u put on big glasses, a headband and skip around like a madman still beeing professional? Well, Freddie can. He does it all the time. Just watch this kid act and you’ll have ur eyes filled with tears. People say he’ll become as big as Haley Joel Osment and Johnny Depp. NO WAY! He’s gonna become so much bigger than that! For god’s sake this kid is a wonderchild, he’s fabulous! If he stops doing this I wouldn’t kno what 2 do, he’s just so fantastic. Other young celebs use 2 let it go 2 their head but not Freddie. He’s lucky that he’s born in a showbiz family but he has attained this most by himself and that’s really strong. U could tell him he’s a loser and that he should devote himself 2 toilet-cleaning nd he wouln’t care, I’m freakin sure about that! Freddie looks so…trustworthy in his movies. He looks so pure, so upright and so sincere. While filming he really “turns 2″ the character. He’s a professional without been an amateur. His first step on set was professional. He’s wot I would call a real guy of natural talents! So do never underrate him, u would so regret that, he’s full of hidden talents. Did u know he can play “When the Saints Go Marching In” on 2 recorders stuck up his nose! Beat that! XD He’s a wonderchild in aesthetical subjects and it’s really unusual 2 b as good as him, in fact, no one is, Freddie’s unique! According 2 my opinions there’s not a single word that’s good enough 2 describe him. He’s in a class by himself! Johnny Depp himself says that he and Kate Winslet was struck dumb with seeing him act. And so was I nd a lot of other ppl all over the world! I luv this guy soo much! And Freddie I will always love u!!

hes an alright actor……..he does pretty good in his movies….i want a good actor like that…..i guest starred in one movie once…but i was in only 3 scenes….so that not much compared to what he can do……i think he acts good……he is an inspiration to you younger kids…….

Yep……Freddie is really cool person, talented and super nice!!! He made me cry in any movies…I like him. I adore Freddie Highmore. I plan to start an acting career as soon as possible, and my dream is to be his costar, eventually. ^_^ It’s amazing how kind he is, and it seems he’s incapable of telling a lie- he should win some kind of award simply for his positive attitude. =)
