David Kelly to play Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

davidkelly_240_001Continuing my policy of only reporting stuff after it’s already public knowledge, I guess I’m now allowed to say that the role of Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be played by David Kelly.

(No, not the guy who writes “The Practice.” It’s the guy who was in Waking Ned Devine.)

I haven’t met him yet, but I will next week when we have the cast reading in London. I’ll be over there for two weeks, so expect fewer updates until after production begins on June 21.

  1. Richard says:

I got a little questain. Was Marilyn Manso ever considered for the role of Willy. If so what were your thoughts?. Even if he never was considered and it was rumour.

  2. John says:

If Manson was ever considered for Wonka, it was long before I got involved with the project. I seriously suspect it was just fanboy speculation that got reported as being as “rumor.” Personally, I have nothing against Manson — he seems thoughtful and articulate in some interviews I’ve seen. But I really think Johnny Depp is the ideal guy for it.
