Western’s out?

Are western’s out?

–Mark Barragar

Yes. So write one if you feel like it. By the time you’re finished, they’ll probably be in again, and you’ll be ahead of the curve.

The genre is dead, but good ones slip through the cracks anyway. The best example is out in theaters now. It’s called The Proposition, and was written by Nick Cave, of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It’s brutal and nihilistic, and just about the best western I’ve seen since Unforgiven. (It sounds like I’m plugging the flick like I’m on the payroll, but I’m not. I’m just a guy jazzed by a great flick.)

Also, I realize that no one will read this, but i’m secure with that.

    There’s always John’s zombie western…
